    Job Description

    Music Coordinator Position:
Harvest is looking for a Music Coordinator (salaried position, approximately 10 hours per week; pay
based on ability / experience) for our Sunday morning worship service, including occasional weddings,
funerals, or other special services (Christmas Eve, Good Friday, hymn sings, etc.) to begin in June 2024. We have a traditional liturgy (Call to Worship, Invocation, Confession of Sin, Profession of Faith, Pastoral Prayer, Scripture Readings, Sermon from God’s Word, Benediction—along with biblically-sound, singable congregational and special music disbursed throughout). Our Sound Team projects CCLI licensed music on multiple screens, records the service, but also streams the service live on YouTube and Facebook.
We are currently using a Yamaha 6.2 feet Grand Piano, Allen Renaissance Quantum (2 manual / digital) Organ, and occasional acoustic guitar. We hope to broaden our musical style and instruments in worship. We use the Trinity Hymnal (Great Commission Publications, 1990) along with modern hymns rich in Scripture (“Getty – style” music), hymns sung to newer tunes, and occasional singable psalms.

    Music Coordinator Personal Prerequisites:
    • Love for Jesus Christ: demonstrates a vibrant, mature relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and
Savior, faithful personal worship in God’s Word and prayer, and faithful church worship.
    • Humility: characterized as one who thinks more highly of others than himself / herself (Phil 2:1-11). This person would be teachable and willing to submit to the leadership of the Sr. Pastor and the Session.
    • Calling: feels called to serve Christ and His church through the music ministry.

    Music Coordinator Professional Prerequisites:
    • Agrees with the Reformed faith and supports the doctrines of Harvest Presbyterian Church as stated in the Westminster Confession of Faith and catechisms and must live in a manner consistent with that profession of faith.
    • Be or become a member of Harvest Presbyterian Church.
    • A heart for ministry and willingness to work outside normal weekday hours, including regularly
scheduled Sunday morning worship services, occasional Sunday evening services or special events (i.e., Christmas Eve, Thanksgiving Eve, Good Friday, weddings, funerals, outreach events, etc.)
    • Ability to accept responsibility and work without significant supervision.
    • Must demonstrate excellent people and communication skills – in person, verbally, in writing and through the use of computer technology.

    Music Coordinator Qualifications and Requirements:
    • Proficient ability in playing grand piano (priority) and organ (secondarily).
    • Harvest is open to the possibility of splitting the position between Music Coordinator and additional hired pianists / organists.
    • Play piano and / or organ for all worship services including Sunday morning worship, occasional
evening worship and special services (i.e., Christmas Eve, Thanksgiving Eve, Good Friday, weddings, funerals, outreach events, etc.)
    • Ability to sight read music with priority over playing by ear.
    • Plan and select music for weekly Sunday worship services with special emphasis to the preached Word. (Music selections would be from Elder approved music and introduced systematically to the congregation.) Provide musical selections early in the week with ample time for office administration staff to prepare bulletins.
    • Coordinate / plan offertory special music, working with members of the congregation.
    • Knowledge of biblical hymnody and a familiarity with the Trinity Hymnal.
    • Knowledge of modern hymns with biblically rich lyrics and simple melodies for congregational singing (i.e., Getty, Indelible Grace, Sovereign Grace, City Alight, etc.)
    • Ability to select music that reaches all generations (young and old), is biblically sound, singable,
    appropriate for congregational singing.
    • Ability to introduce new music over time, helping the congregation learn the music.
    • Ability to encourage and cultivate a congregation that sings out to the Lord.
    • Ability to avoid a performance emphasis in musical worship (Romans 11:33-36).
    • Knowledge of voice; ability to develop and direct choirs and small voice ensembles over time.
    • Ability to work with, encourage, and train additional music volunteers (singers, instrumentalists, etc.) Cultivate an atmosphere of using musical gifts God has given Harvest members.
    • Encourage additional, approved instruments in worship (e.g. acoustic guitar, strings, brass, flute, cajon, etc.)
