    Job Description

    Primary Purpose of Job
    Plan, organize, staff and direct all ministries to the youth (6th through 12th grades) of First Presbyterian Church, Jacksonville, FL (FPCJax)

    Prerequisites
    1. A personal commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
    2. A demonstrated practice in the spiritual disciplines of personal prayer and Bible study
    3. Preferred Bachelor degree and/or 3-5 years experience running a youth ministry
    4. A knowledge or willingness to train in areas of:
    a. small group dynamics
    b. large group principles
    c. youth Christian ministry
    5. An active and continuous pursuit of personal and professional development related to theological education and the details of youth ministry
    6. Moral convictions and lifestyle which are consistent with a traditional understanding of Biblical teachings.
    7. Theological views consistent with ECO and the historical Presbyterian faith
    8. Agreement with the relational philosophy of ministry of FPCJax.
    9. Able to express oneself clearly and in grammatically correct form both orally and in writing.
    10. Capable and willing to express a personal faith in Jesus Christ and the ability to lead another person to Jesus Christ
    11. A love for all kinds of people; an ability to work well with others; an ability to function in a team ministry by being open, giving and receiving care; providing supervision.

    Specific Areas of Responsibility
    Lead, encourage, supervise, and give vision to all areas of youth ministry including:
    1. Leadership Development – Develop ministry teams for middle school and high school ministries; each team will I turn be responsible for:
    a. School visitation (as allowed by the schools)
    b. Home visitation (as needed with visitors, members)
    c. Sunday School – teach youth Sunday School and work with Discipleship Committee to recommend curriculum and create/maintain a Sunday School Ministry Team
    d. Youth focused programs such as: study groups, recreational/adventure events, service/mission events, outreach/evangelical events
    2. Nurture and train leaders for all above ministries as they grow
    3. Participate in region-wide youth outreach events
    4. Develop and lead Confirmation Classes for youth interested in uniting with FPCJax
    5. Encourage the participation of youth in the worship life of FPCJax on a regular basis: ushering; music; special holiday programs
    6. Work closely with Discipleship Committee

    Expectations
    1. Weekly attendance at staff meetings
    2. Regular attendance at Sunday worship (may miss 4 Sundays/year)
    3. Assist in worship when requested
    4. Report directly to Senior Minister and to appropriate committees
    5. Supervise work of all lay leaders any full-time or part-time staff members working with the Youth Program
    6. Assist committee chairs in leadership enlistment
    7. Attend and participate in the Discipleship Committee
    8. Attend Session meeting quarterly as scheduled
    9. Monthly written report to session.

    Administration
    1. Promote and communicate Youth Ministry opportunities and activities through the bulletin, website, newsletter
    2. Assist Discipleship and Finance in building the Youth Ministry budget
    3. Maintain a current inventory of Youth Ministry supplies and work with FPC’s office manager and Discipleship Chair to purchase needed materials
    4. Responsible for church’s audio/visual equipment as related to the Youth Ministry

    Work Week, Compensation, Evaluations
    1. 12-15 hours/week
    a. $1000 per month.
    b. 3-5 hours on Sunday for Sunday school, service and youth group meeting.
    c. 8-10 hours per week in planning, contacting parents and youth, attending sporting events and activities, doing fun events, discipleship with students.
    2. Pay rate and schedule as defined in employment agreement
    3. Time off as defined in the personnel manual
    4. Annual performance evaluation by Senior Minister and chair of Discipleship Committee
