The General Board of Church and Society (GBCS) is seeking an experienced professional to perform the operational functions in the areas of accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipts and general ledger.
The Staff Accountant will be responsible for preparing bank deposits, invoices for billing requests and assisting the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) with yearly audits and other special projects. GBCS is the presence of The United Methodist Church on Capitol Hill in Washington DC. GBCS is tasked with implementing the Social Principles, which contain stances taken on social and political issues by The United Methodist Church.
Review and process payments on Chrome River Expense/Invoice software application and Microsoft Dynamic Great Plains accounting system.
Responsible for maintaining fixed asset database.
Perform administrative duties for the Chrome River system and other corporate credit card billing accounts.
Maintain vendor information and coordinate the year-end 1099 processing.
Prepare monthly accounts receivable invoices and record cash receipts.
Reconcile corporate credit card accounts.
Prepare monthly journal entries.
Reconcile balance sheet accounts and prepare reclass entries for posting.
Generate and distribute monthly operating report to departments.
Coordinate internal and external audits, in collaboration with CFO.
Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or Finance is required. Prior supervisory experience is preferred.
2 years of experience with accounts payable is required, preferably with Chrome River and Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains.
2 – 3 years of experience in general ledger is preferred.
2-3 years of experience in account analysis, reconciliation and financial reporting is preferred.
Hard worker who is self-motivated must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel at intermediate level.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with persons at all levels and in diverse groups and communities.
Ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities with a proficiency in problem solving with attention to detail.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Must be able to work effectively with a team, while demonstrating initiative.
Knowledge of The United Methodist Church and its structures is preferred.
Must be able to work full-time in Washington, DC, no paid relocation. Currently working remotely due to COVID-19.
