    Job Description

    The Worship & Family Minister at Smoky Mountain Christian Church in Sevierville, TN is a full-time position.  The Worship & Family Minister at SMCC will work under the direction of the SMCC elders and Senior Minister and is directly supervised by the Senior Minister.  We would envision a minimum 40-hour week (10-15 hours worship ministry & 25-30 hours children & youth ministries).

    Plan and lead the Sunday morning TRADITIONAL (9:00 a.m.) and CONTEMPORARY worship services (10:30 a.m.)

      • Select songs/music and intermittent Scripture readings etc.
      • Prepare the weekly Power Point/Pro Presenter presentation so that the verses of songs and lyrics and Scripture readings are how you plan to sing them on Sunday morning.
      • Identify, recruit, and schedule musicians and praise team members.
      • Conduct a weekly praise team practice.
      • Work with the Senior Minister to coordinate the sermon series, themes, and texts into the song selections.
      • Working with the Senior Minister look for ways to incorporate other forms of worship and expression into the weekly worship services including videos, skits, testimonies, and interpretive forms of praise & worship.
      • Identify and oversee 2-3 additional worship ministry outlets/opportunities throughout the year (Ex. “Night of Worship”).
      • Working with the Senior Minister and other staff members help with the planning and leading of the annual Christmas Eve and Good Friday services.
      • Help oversee the tech team (audio/visual/online) with equipment/instruments, volunteer recruiting, volunteer training, and volunteer scheduling.
      • Help keep the SMCC website and FB page updated, fresh, and inspiring.
      • Establish a worship arts ministry team and meet regularly to plan the weekly/monthly/yearly worship services; and working with the Senior Minister look for creative ways to enhance the SMCC worship experience.

    Children’s Ministry Duties (Nursery – 6th grade)

      • Recruit & schedule volunteers to serve in the nursery & pre-school classes on Sunday mornings for both the traditional and contemporary worship services.
      • Recruit & schedule volunteers to teach elementary aged S.S. classes (K-6th grade) for both the traditional and contemporary worship services.

    The main objective for the two aforementioned duties is to have some form of children’s programming and/or classes in place on Sunday mornings during both the traditional and contemporary worship services!

    • Research, select, and provide your Sunday morning volunteers with lesson curriculum and resources.
    • Oversee the children’s ministry Sunday morning check-in process.
    • Conduct background checks on all potential children’s ministry volunteers.
    • Maintain parental/guardian permission slips for all children involved in the SMCC youth ministry.
    • Maintain the children’s ministry area supply cabinets and closets.
    • Plan & coordinate at least 3-5 children’s ministry events/outings throughout the year including Vacation Bible School.

    Youth Ministry Duties (Middle and High School Students)

      • Develop relationships with our current youth and with potential youth members currently outside of SMCC by appropriate methods to bring knowledge of Jesus Christ to as many youths as possible. As possible and appropriate, recognize and attend events of the youth such as birthdays, graduations, sporting events, school events, recitals, etc.
      • Recruit and schedule Sunday School teachers.
      • Lead the Wednesday night youth group.
      • Research, select, and provide your Sunday morning and Wednesday night volunteers with lesson curriculum and resources.
      • Plan & coordinate at least 3-5 youth ministry events/outings throughout the year including Tennessee Teen Christian Convention (TCTC) or some other appropriate annual event such as a CIY conference or KCU’s “Summer in the SON” (as approved by the Sr. Minister and Elders).

    Additional Duties

    • Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings.
    • Attend monthly board meetings and provide a written or verbal monthly report.
    • Encourage summer camp participation by SMCC children & youth.
    • Establish a children’s & youth ministry team and conduct regular meetings. This team will be used as a resource to the children & youth ministry by providing feedback and ideas to the AM for the children and youth ministry of SMCC.
    • Conduct background checks on all potential youth ministry volunteers.
    • Maintain parental/guardian permission slips for all youth involved in the SMCC youth ministry.
    • As opportunities and time allows, find ways to be visible, involved, and connected with the entire SMCC family; and not just with the SMCC children/youth and their families.
    • Use your creativity, experience, and gifts to help the SMCC grow and serve the church’s vision of being “a church that leads in LOVING, SERVING and GROWING, both in God and with others.”
