Sharon Heights Baptist Church is located in the Brookside community between the north-western suburbs of Birmingham. Sharon Heights is about 5 minutes from Interstate 22, and about 20 minutes from downtown Birmingham. ABOUT THE POSITION
As a believer, the Associate Pastor will have a clear testimony of faith in Christ as His Savior and a proven record of spiritual growth and maturity. He will be a member of a local New Testament church with clear conservative and evangelical theological convictions. He must be willing to accept the doctrinal positions outlined in the 2000 Baptist Faith and Message of the Southern Baptist Convention. He will be expected to lead, pastor, and direct worship from these convictions.
As a disciple, he will possess a teachable spirit and will be committed to developing his skills and craft in order to improve his effectiveness in his vocation. He will have viable experience in church worship and music ministries which demonstrate an evident calling, quality training, and a sincere passion to minister to the church through scripturally faithful, Spirit-led worship. A formal college education/seminary degree will be strongly preferred but not required.
As a worship leader, The Associate Pastor of Worship will work in conjunction with the Senior Pastor and musicians to lead a comprehensive music program to edify the congregation at Sharon Heights and to exalt the Lord Jesus so that every member of Sharon Heights is engaged in worship through the entirety of the worship service.
As a musician, The Associate Pastor of Worship will have a quality singing voice. He will help train singers, musicians, and choirs in order that they may sing and play with competence and excellence through individual coaching, choir practices, and band rehearsals along with whatever other means may be necessary and appropriate. He will have a strong technical musical proficiency with the ability to read music and play an instrument strongly preferred.
As a team builder, The Associate Pastor of Worship will develop effective working relationships with others including staff, committees, and volunteers. He will work alongside of the church’s media team to ensure sound, lighting, presentation, software, and livestreaming represent Sharon Heights at its best.
As an employee, he will possess the core value of excellence and must have good time management skills and organizational abilities. He needs to be a multi-tasker who can discern, analyze, and resolve ministry issues. He should be detail oriented, flexible, and decisive, with the ability to set and meet deadlines, establish healthy priorities, and motivate others.
As a pastor, The Associate Pastor of Worship must meet the qualifications for pastor laid out in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1. He will be expected to take part in regular pastoral duties including preaching and pastoral care of members.
As a leader, he will lead and direct the worship at regular and special services by overseeing the chore and praise tams through recruitment, rehearsals, musical training, and discipleship to ensure the widest possible range of the church’s musical talent is utilized.
As a good steward, The Associate Pastor of Worship will help plan and present the budget of the music ministry as well as any other ministry areas that fall under his oversight. He will select and purchase all needed music, equipment, instruments, and any related resources to music and worship.
As a shepherd, The Associate Pastor of Pastoral Care will work in conjunction with the Senior Pastor to ensure that every member of Sharon Heights is cared for, shepherded, and discipled through the various seasons of life.
As an overseer, The Associate Pastor of Pastoral Care will foster a culture of communication between the pastoral staff, the church staff, the deacons, the ministry leaders, and volunteers of Sharon Heights so that needs are known widely and cared for quickly through whatever means, programs, or ministries may be necessary or appropriate.
As a preacher, The Associate Pastor of Pastoral Care will work to faithfully share the gospel and the hope of scripture both from the pulpit of Sharon Heights and in more personal settings.
As a disciple-maker, the Associate Pastor of Pastoral Care will lead others in the church body to care for the needs of the body.
As a staff-member he will attend regular staff meetings for prayer, encouragement, planning, ministry implementation, and evaluation.
The Children’s Pastor/Ministry Director will be expected to have a minimum of three years’ experience serving in church ministry.
Experience leading a children’s ministry is a plus.
If married, the Children’s Pastor/Ministry Director should have a spouse that has a passion for ministry and children as well.
The Children’s Pastor/Ministry Director will be expected to pass a background check and will be subject to a credit check.
The Children’s Pastor/Ministry Director will come from another Baptist congregation, or from a congregation with like-minded doctrine.
The Children’s Pastor/Ministry Director must ascribe to Sharon Heights’ doctrinal statement which is the 2000 Baptist Faith and Message.
