    Job Description


    The Pastor of World Outreach is responsible for developing and implementing the church’s strategy in relationship to world outreach. Specific responsibilities include strengthening the church’s ministries to and through career missionaries, reaching the church’s stated goals of giving for World Outreach, and getting everyone associated with Valley involved in at least one cross-cultural missions experience.


    Candidate Attributes and Qualifications

     To be effective in this role, a successful candidate will be a growing, committed disciple of Jesus Christ. Candidates must be Evangelical and Baptistic in convictions, and ascribe to Valley’s Affirmations of Faith as contained in the church Constitution.

    1. The candidate should possess many of the following core gifts, passions, and qualifications:
    2. Passion and heart for lost people; active in sharing the Gospel.
    3. Successful ministry leadership experience, demonstrated by a significant ability to lead, direct, and minister through others.
    4. Strong theology of missions and a personal commitment to model Christian disciplines.
    5. Gifted leader and team-builder who can cast a compelling vision of the significance of World Outreach and enable people to find, develop, and use the gifts God has given them to build up the body of Christ.
    6. Collaborative style of leading up and down in the organization (as opposed to a top-down authoritarian style of leadership).
    7. Ability to create an environment where ministry servants on the World Outreach Team are loved, encouraged, and supported in their growth as disciples.
    8. History of successfully applying administrative, organizational, management, and networking skills.
    9. Willing and able to travel in connection with job responsibilities.
    10. Bachelor’s degree required; Master of Divinity or Missiology degree preferred.
    11. A candidate who is ordained or ordainable is preferred.
    12. Seven to 10 years of successful experience in leading World Outreach or Missions ministry, preferably in a large-church setting.

    Ministry Responsibilities

    1. Develops strategies to include laypeople and staff members in World Outreach efforts.
    2. Develops and maintains strategic relationships with mission agencies and the Connecticut Missions Consortium. Serves as the liaison with missions pastors and missions executives from other churches and organizations.
    3. Manages relationships with missionaries and entities supported by Valley.
    4. Develops and implements strategies required to reach the church’s goals on giving to World Outreach.
    5. Develops and implements strategies required to reach the goal of having all people  associated with Valley engage in at least one cross-cultural missions experience.
    6. Coordinates World Outreach education throughout the congregation and all other church ministries.
    7. Develops strategies and approaches to connect people and ministries of the church to the vision of World Outreach.
    8. Builds and leads a healthy World Outreach staff and volunteer team by shepherding, discipling, mentoring, equipping, and encouraging the team members.
    9. Provides organizational leadership and accountability for the World Outreach team, including planning and budgeting.
    10. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Pastor.

    Key Working Relationships

    1. Reports to the Executive Pastor.
    2. Functions cooperatively as a member of Valley’s senior-staff leadership team responsible for leading the overall ministry of the church.
    3. Supervises administrative staff for World Outreach.
    4. Works with the World Outreach Committee to cast and implement vision for World Outreach.
    5. Works with the World Outreach Committee to develop and implement long-range plans.
    6. Collaborates with other ministry staff to advance World Outreach goals through the ministries of the church.

    Employment At-Will
